WNBA announces first international regular season game in Vancouver
After the successes of both pre-season WNBA Canada Games, the Seattle Storm and Atlanta Dream will play a regular season game in Vancouver, BC.
The WNBA is bringing another game to Canada, but with a twist! This year, the Seattle Storm and Atlanta Dream will play the WNBA’s first ever international regular season game in Vancouver, BC on August 15, 2025.
In 2023, the WNBA brought its first ever game to Canada, when the Chicago Sky and Minnesota Lynx played a pre-season game at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. In 2024, they brought back another pre-season game as the LA Sparks and Seattle Storm played in Edmonton. Both events were sold-out, with several other activations including local business markets and campaigns a smashing success as well.
Now, the WNBA will check off another first with this game in Vancouver.
With the WNBA expanding into Canada in 2026 with the Toronto Tempo set to join the league, international games are soon going to be a regular occurrence. Toronto’s ownership has already announced plans to hold games in several Canadian locations in order to bring the joy of live women’s basketball to more Canadians. Along, of course, with the Toronto Tempo playing most of their games in Toronto at Coca Cola Coliseum.

WNBA viewership in Canada during the 2024 season was up 175% compared to the 2023 season, as the league as a whole saw record-breaking attendance and viewership in 2024. Along with Toronto in 2026, Portland has also been granted an expansion team. The league’s 13th team, the Golden State Valkyries, will join the league in 2025. The goal is add a 16th team in the next few years as well.
