Drones pose "no threats to the public": NYPD Commissioner
BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) -- The mystery surrounding the drones continues as local and national officials have commented on their origins.
President-elect Donald, however, believes that Biden's administration knows what’s happening. “Our military knows where they took off from. If it's a garage they can go right inside. They know where it came from and where it went,” said Trump.
He also claimed that Biden wants to “keep people in suspense.”
"For some reason, they don't want to comment, and I think they'd be better off saying what it is. "I can't imagine it's the enemy, because if it was the enemy they'd blast it," said Trump.
New Yorkers have mixed feelings about Trump’s comments.
“I think it is a good guess. I think they probably know, I think, or air defense systems are good enough to tell,” said Creg.
“Hard take at face value. I doubt it I feel like they would’ve said something if they knew or as soon as they know,” stated Milo.
Drone sightings across New Jersey and New York continue to spark alarm among residents on both sides of the Hudson River but NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Intelligence and Counterterrorism Rebecca Weiner tells PIX11 News there are no threats to the public.
“Of the drone activity that we have seen, none of it has posed a security risk is the stuff we see every day,” said Weiner.
Over the weekend there were 120 drone-related calls made to 911 and 311 compared to the entire month of November where less than 100 calls were made.
“A lot of it is misattributed to aircraft so planes that are taking off and landing. Helicopters, as well as commercially available hobby drones.”
According to New Jersey Governor, Phil Murphy, the state received 3 new drone detection systems from the federal government.
“These are as sophisticated as they get, and I am thankful for the fact they are finally in New Jersey,” stated Murphy.
