Double header announced for February's Diamond Glove
Double header announced for February 11th at Korakuen Hall
Earlier today news was announced regarding the February 11th edition of the long running Diamond Glove show, and it’s an interesting one, feature two solid title bouts.
The first of the two title bouts will see Ryusei Kawaura (12-2, 8) [川浦龍生] defending his WBO Asia Pacific Super Flyweight title against hard hitting switch hitter Takahiro Tai (8-1, 8) [田井宜広].
For Kawwaura the bout will serve as his first defense of the regional title he won in in August, when he stopped Tetsuro Ohashi, and will see him look to continue a 3 fight winning run, since losing in a Japanese title fight in June 2023 against the hard hitting Suzumi Takayama. The champion is a skilled fighter, though the loss to Takayama does show he’s not the most durable, and he will certainly have to rely on his skills, movement and defense here. As for Tai the bout will be his third title show, having come up short in a Japanese Bantamweight title bout in 2021, losing to Fumiya Fuse, before dropping down in weight to claim the lightly regarded WBO Oriental Super Flyweight title. Notably he hasn't faced a domestic opponent since losing to Fuse, beating 4 Thai's and a Filipino since his sole loss, including Marudet Chinsukeeporn, who he stopped in brutal fashion this past weekend.
The main event will see Daishi Nagata (20-3-2, 6) [永田大士] defending his OPBF and WBO Asia Pacific Light Welterweight titles Hiroto Hoshi (7-3-4, 3) [星大翔].
Nagata will be defending the two titles together for the first time since unifying back in February with a decision victory over Koki Inoue, though he has been active since then defending the WBO Asia Pacific belt in June in South Korea. Aged he’s coming to the end of his career, but should feel comfortable picking up a win here. To date Hoshi is best known for coming up short again Jin Sasaki, in his only previous title bout, though that was at 147lbs against one of the nastiest punchers in Japan. This bout will be at 140lbs, and potentially the weight that Hoshi is best suited to.
The show will be shown on FOD and will be held at the legendary Korakuen Hall.
