14-year-old Ismaili teenager shot dead in Wakhan District, Badakhshan

Local sources in Badakhshan report that militants executed a 14-year-old Ismaili teenager by shooting him in the Wakhan district.

Sources on Tuesday, 17th December stated that the Taliban militants shot the teenager two days ago in the village of “Degargand” in the Wakhan district of Badakhshan.

The boy, named Islamuddin, was a seventh-grade student.

A Taliban official from the group’s security command in Badakhshan confirmed the killing, stating that the shooting was a mistake. He added that two individuals had been arrested in connection with the incident.

This follows a troubling pattern of violence, as just two weeks ago, the hanging body of a middle-aged man from the Ismaili community was found in the Baharak district of Badakhshan.

Moreover, last week, Taliban militants executed a man in the city of Faizabad in front of his daughter.

Since their takeover of Afghanistan, the Taliban has increasingly targeted religious minorities and former military personnel, raising concerns about the security and rights of vulnerable groups in the country. The recent killings highlight the ongoing human rights violations faced by these communities under the Taliban’s rule.

Such incidents also point to the failure of the Taliban’s claim to provide security and stability for all Afghanistan’s citizens. The international community remains concerned about these violations and the growing climate of fear, especially for religious minorities.
