California March for Life Will Push Back Against Gavin Newsom’s Abortion Agenda
Last month we saw some amazing wins for our movement with the election of pro-life legislators and governors in states across the country. But while we celebrate victories in some states, others are marshalling their resources to strengthen their dangerous pro-abortion stances and fight back against our cause.
Immediately following November’s election results, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced that he would be calling a special legislative session of the California State Legislature to “safeguard California values and fundamental rights,” which includes their heartbreaking and dangerous pro-abortion laws. As the special session was convened on December 1st, California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced two proposed bills that would “make it unequivocally clear: California will remain a safe haven for reproductive rights and access to abortion care, no matter who is in the White House.”

The first proposed bill, titled the Medication Abortion Access Bill, would shield manufacturers and providers of chemical abortion drugs from legal action brought against them in California. This bill is just the latest attempt by pro-abortion activists and legislators across the country to grow the mail order abortion trade and remove safeguards that protect women. Last year, California and other pro-abortion states even began stockpiling hundreds of thousands of chemical abortion drugs to fight back against potential pro-life laws in other states.
The second proposed bill, the Attorney General Enforcement of the Reproductive Privacy Act, would allow the California attorney general to sue a local government if they try to stop an abortion provider from opening in their area, penalizing the city up to $25,000 and overriding the will of its citizens. Tragically, both of these proposed bills are meant to further solidify California’s status as an “abortion haven.
Despite our victories this year, it is clear that we must stand even stronger in the coming year to advance the pro-life cause and push back against those that choose to deny the inherent dignity of life and protection of mothers. The 5th annual California March for Life will take place on March 31, 2025, where we will provide a vital advocacy opportunity for the local pro-life community, and, through our policy partnership with local organizations in California, fight to protect the unborn and ensure real support for mothers.
Together, we can amplify our voices and continue to advocate for policies that uphold the sanctity of life and fight back against dangerous and extreme policies across the nation.
