G-SHOCK Collectors Need This Rare, Snake-Themed Watch

Casio has just revealed its latest G-SHOCK honoring Lunar New Year—the limited-edition GSTB400CX-1A. The watch marks the Year of the Snake, which begins January 29, 2025.
In Chinese tradition, the snake represents renewal and change thanks to the animal’s need to shed its skin as it grows—a metaphor for transformation. So, fittingly the G-SHOCK pays tribute to the sixth beast on rotation in the zodiac with a serpent skin pattern on the dial as well as a ouroboros emblem—a serpent devouring its own tail—engraved on the case back. This motif symbolizes infinity and the eternal cycle of rebirth. The watch also features a black dial with gold accents on the hands, indexes and pushers for a color scheme inspired by the Lunar New Year calendar.

This analog-digital chronograph’s stainless-steel case provides an ample 200 meters of water resistance. The robust 46.6mm × 49.6mm size skews a little large but it is the slimmest G-STEEL Casio has produced to date, measuring just 12.9 mm from case back to bezel. Plus, the watch uses the brand’s carbon core guard structure to reduce weight and comes on a soft resin band to lessen the load.
Beyond standard time keeping, this model offers world time for 38 cities around the globe, a 1/100-second stopwatch, five daily alarms, 12 or 24 hour time formats, an automatic calendar that is good until 2099, and a Super Illuminator LED light. For the digital savvy, there’s a Bluetooth Smartphone Link, which allows for automatic time correction and gets rid of the need to adjust the time when crossing time zones. Without the App, the solar powered, dual-coil motors are accurate to plus or minus 15 seconds per month. When left in the dark, the watch goes blank to preserve the power supply.
