Bruins Notes: Boston Shows ‘Dangerous’ Side In Comeback Win Over Flames

The Boston Bruins gave up a late goal in the second period, but they never lost confidence in themselves.

Trailing 3-1 heading into the final 20 minutes of regulation, the Bruins tilted the ice and potted two goals to force overtime.

Bruins captain Brad Marchand said despite being down two goals, the players never lost confidence.

“It felt like we still had a ton of confidence that we had the ability to come back,” Marchand told reporters in Calgary. “A period is a long time in this league, and confidence and belief is dangerous. If you have that, then you can make it happen.

“We’ve done it a few times recently where we were pushing in the third, and we’re starting to have that belief again that we can come back in this situation. We need to be better at not getting in this position and having the breakdowns we did in the second period. But, at the end of the day, the points are huge right now, and we came up big in the third.”

Once Boston tied the game in regulation, it was time for David Pastrnak to put on his cape and again be the hero for the Bruins with 38 seconds left in the extra frame. Pastrnak’s 12th goal of the season lifted the Bruins to a 4-3 overtime victory over the Flames.

“Anytime he gets the puck, it doesn’t matter where he’s at, he can create something,” Marchand said. “He had the puck back in the neutral zone, letting guys change and then he decided to walk in and score.

“He’s the kind of guy that you never know what’s going to happen when he has the puck on his stick. He can create something from nothing. Extremely good player when you get him in the slot, and he gets that shot off. It’s a treat to watch him every day.”

Pastrnak was out on the ice for an extended shift that lasted nearly a minute when he collected the puck from defenseman Charlie McAvoy.

“That was kind of fun,” Pastrnak told reporters. “We were both out there long, and I was yelling at him to keep (the puck) so I could change and he just dropped it back to me and said, ‘You keep it,’ and he went and changed.

“… That’s what it is in overtime. It gets up and down sometimes. Chuckie made a hell of a play on the back check, and there was a minute left, so I just wanted to get it on net and maybe get a whistle. Luckily, the shot went it.”

Here are more notes from Tuesday’s Bruins-Flames game:

— Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman made 20 saves on 23 shots to earn his first win against Calgary in his career. Swayman improved to 11-10-2 across 23 games with Boston this season.

— With an assist on Marc McLaughlin’s third-period goal, Marchand extended his point streak to seven games with five goals and three assists.

— Elias Lindholm lit the lamp for just the fourth time since signing with the Bruins in the offseason. Lindholm spent six seasons with the Flames before being traded mid-season to the Canucks in the 2023-24 campaign.

— The Bruins look to close out the road trip with a win when they face the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday night. Puck drop from Rogers Place is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET, and you can watch all the action, plus an hour of pregame coverage on NESN.
