Academy of the Sacred Heart to pause its boarding program in 2025
GRAND COTEAU, La. (KLFY) -- Since 1821, The Academy of the Sacred Heart has been a day and boarding school for girls, with boarding students staying in the historic Moreau Hall. But next school year will look a bit different.
Aimee Cotter, director of marketing and special events, said enrollment for the Moreau Hall students will be paused for the 2025-2026 school year.
"We kind of need to just recalibrate and figure out our next recruiting strategy," she said.
This change is a result of a decline in enrollment, much like that has been seen at other schools across the country since the COVID-19 pandemic.
Although boarding student enrollment has decreased, Cotter said the school continues to grow and thrive each year as day-student and commuter numbers continue to rise.
"The landscape has changed now as many of those students are either choosing to stay closer to home or they've become day students here," she said.
With the continued success of the day school, Cotter said The Academy of the Sacred Heart has no plans of closing its doors and continuing its legacy of faith, academics, service, community, wise freedom and athletics.
"We're not going anywhere. We are very, very proud to be here for over 200 years and counting. And you can see a lot more great things coming in the future," Cotter said.
