How Many Casket Collabs Is Too Many?

Just when you thought there was too much movie merch, Nosferatu has out-macabred itself. On Tuesday, Focus Features released a Nosferatu-branded casket — the second full-size piece of funerary paraphernalia this movie has spawned. Will we ever have enough sarcophagi?

A little more than a week after announcing a 250-pound, $20,000 bed designed to look like the coffin that appears in the movie, Focus unveiled a collaboration with the direct-to-consumer coffin brand Titan Casket. (Our colleagues at the Strategist recommend the brand’s Tesla-themed Cybercasket as a Christmas gift this year.) While the coffin replica was just created for a good night’s sleep (?), this item is really, truly built for eternal rest — it’s made of 18-gauge steel with a high-gloss finish, and Titan can apparently deliver it to a funeral home of your choice.

The down side, should you want to be buried in a giant hunk of movie promo: This casket is merely “inspired” by Nosferatu’s “haunting aesthetic and rich storytelling,” so it doesn’t really look like the coffin from which a vampire might arise, thirsting for the blood of innocents, at sundown. It does come in Vampiric Black with the movie’s logo stitched onto the red velvet interior, though, so that’s nice.
