Cheapest supermarket for beer, wine and spirit deals this Christmas revealed
THE cheapest supermarkets to stock up on Christmas tipples have been revealed.
With the big day fast approaching, The Sun has compared the prices of 14 of the most popular festive tipples at 11 major retailers to find which one was the cheapest.
Households with any upcoming Christmas parties should consider getting themselves down to Asda this December.
The UK’s third-largest supermarket trumped rivals at Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Aldi and Morrisons as the cheapest place to buy booze.
For example, a 75cl bottle of Canti Prosseco costs £6.50 at Asda, but at B&M you would be asked to pay £7.50 for the same product.
This rises to £8.75 if you shop at Morrisons and Sainsbury’s.
Again an 18-pack of Stella Artois costs £14 at Asda and Co-op, but at Morrisons, you would be asked to pay £16.50.
We looked at a range of booze products from different supermarkets to see whether this was the case across the board.

Beer
Those looking to stock up on beer and lager this Christmas would want to get themselves down to Aldi.
An 18-pack of Carlsberg costs £9.99 at the German discounter and £10 at Asda and Sainsbury’s if you are a Nectar Cardholder.
Non-Sainsbury’s loyalty card holders would have to fork out £12 and Iceland shoppers would have to pay £12.12.
Aldi is also charging £10.99 for an 18-pack of Fosters, with Tesco and Sainsbury’s coming in second, charging £11 for the same product for their respective loyalty card holders.
You will need to sign up for either a Sainsbury’s Nectar Card or a Tesco Clubcard to get the offer.
Wine
Asda isn’t the only place to nab cheap wine this Christmas.
If you are looking for a bottle of Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc, then Morrisons is your best bet.
The supermarket is charging £8 for a 75cl bottle of the white wine, beating Asda by 50p.
Tesco comes in third, charging £11, followed by Waitrose, which charges £11.49.
But the posh supermarket is the cheapest place to buy a bottle of Jam Shed Shiraz, charging just £6.50.
This beats Asda and Ocado who both charge £7 for the popular red wine.
Partygoers looking to toast the New Year with a glass of Moet & Chandon should shop on Amazon with the online shop charging £36 for a 75cl bottle.
Waitrose comes in second charging £37.99 and both Asda and Morrisons are charging £43.
Spirits
Moving on to spirits, Asda once again takes the crown, alongside e-commerce giant Amazon and Tesco.
A 1-litre bottle of Bacardi costs £18 at both Amazon, Asda and Tesco.
You will need to factor in delivery costs if you choose to shop on Amazon.
That is unless you have Amazon Prime, which is a £8.99 per month subscription service that grants you free online delivery.
A litre bottle of Captain Morgan’s also costs £19 at all three retailers; the second best option is Co-op, which costs £19.50.
But it is worth noting that Tesco shoppers will need to have a Clubcard to shop the spirits at a discount otherwise they will have to pay £24.
Gin lovers have a choice of Asda, Amazon and Waitrose to buy a bottle of Gordon’s Dry Gin, as all stores are currently charging £19.
As for Christmas classic Baileys, Co-op is the cheapest place to buy a litre bottle as it’s just £8.
This is followed by Asda, Amazon and Ocado, who are charging £10.
How to save money on Christmas shopping

Make sure you shop around for the best deals by using price comparison sites so you’re not forking out more than you should though.
Buy in Boxing Day sales – some retailers start their main Christmas sales early so you can actually snap up a bargain before December 25.
Delivery may cost you a bit more, but it can be worth it if the savings are decent.
Shop via outlet stores – you can save loads of money shopping via outlet stores like Amazon Warehouse or Office Offcuts.
They work by selling returned or slightly damaged products at a discounted rate, but usually any wear and tear is minor.
