2024 season recap: JLB Heating & Cooling 358-Modifieds and Next Level Home Improvement Sportsman

Cornwall, ON – Wednesday, December 18, 2024 – Martin Belanger – As we are about to turn the page on 2024, it is now time to look back at the great year in our regular divisions. We are finishing our 2024 season recap with the JLB Heating & Cooling 358-Modifieds and Next Level Home Improvement Sportsman.

Newcomer Jackson Gill opened some eyes early on as he won the first 3 events of the season, putting him in contention for the 358-Modified track title. The race for the coveted crown was another heater for most of the season, as Carey Terrance was able to secure his fifth title, becoming the first modified driver in 55 years to claim 5 championships. Terrance was declared the champion on the final points night, finishing with 29 points over Gill, 35 over Corey Wheeler, and 41 over Louie Jackson Jr. A total of 4 drivers visited the winner’s circle on more than one occasion, with Gill leading the way with 4 visits, as Terrance, Jackson, and Ryan Arbuthnot each won 2 events. Former track champion, Mario Clair, won the Fat Les Chip Stand Canadian Nationals Series over Gill and Arbuthnot.

In the Next Level Home Improvement Sportsman division, it was a 2-way battle between Gabriel Cyr and Shane Pecore, as Cyr was able to grab the title with a 29-point advantage over Pecore. Third generation driver Tristan Ladouceur finished third in the points chase, while Justin Desrosiers had his best season in the Sportsman ranks with a solid fourth over Sylvain Dupuis, who rounded out the top 5. Like the 358-Modified, four drivers visited the winner’s circle more than once last summer, as Cyr made 4 trips, Pecore 3, with Cedric Gauvreau and Bobby Herrington making two visits each. The new Lamoureux Pumping Sportsman Series saw Herrington winning by a small 9-point margin over Cyr, with Pecore completing the top 3.

The return of DIRTcar sanctioning next season at Cornwall might bring new faces in both divisions, as there are already several drivers thinking of making Sunday night a regular stop. Most of the top 10 drivers in points for the 358 will return, with Gabriel Cyr already an early favorite to claim the rookie of the year title in the top division. The Sportsman division will see a new champion in 2025, with Cyr making the jump to the 358s.

The Super DIRTcar Big Block Series is already penciled in for June 29, while a date for the DIRTcar 358-Modified and Sportsman Series are still in the works at this point. The Fat Les Chip Stand Canadian Nationals and Lamoureux Pumping Sportsman Series will come back as well during next summer.

More announcements regarding the 2025 schedule are expected early in the new calendar year. Stay tuned for some exciting news!
