Industry insider thinks £4 billion deal would be ‘perfect fit’ for Tottenham

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has made a rather interesting claim about one US billionaire’s attempts to buy Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham in talks over minority investment

It is an open secret that Tottenham are on the lookout for investment and it has been widely reported over recent weeks that Daniel Levy has even held talks with Newcastle’s former co-owner Amanda Staveley about selling a 25 per cent stake in the club.

Other parties have also been credited with an interest in the North London club, including Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.

It emerged earlier this month that Jones had travelled to London to hold a meeting with Levy and explore the possibility of buying Tottenham. However, Alasdair Gold was quick to shut down the rumours for now.

Kieth Wyness can see Jerry Jones pushing through deal

Wyness admits that among all the rumours about a potential takeover of Spurs, the Jones links make the most sense.

The former Everton CEO insisted that the American Billionaire would be capable of meeting Tottenham’s £4 billion asking price and completing a full takeover, adding that he and Levy would enjoy working together.

When asked about rumours of Jones having spoken to Levy, Wyness told Football Insider: “I don’t know anything about the connection. But when I heard the rumour, I thought it was a perfect fit. The Dallas Cowboys and Spurs, both promise so much and never manage to deliver.

“Jerry Jones would be a classic owner. The NFL connection would make sense, and he’s got the ability to buy at the £4 billion level – which we think Daniel Levy is holding out for. It’s the first one I’ve heard that makes real sense from a football and sporting point of view.

“I think he and Levy would get on like a house on fire in terms of their ambition, they’re very complementary. I’d be interested to see it because I think they’d be a powerhouse if they got together, commercially.”

Commercial success may not translate to on-pitch success

There is no doubt that Tottenham have been a success story commercially under Levy, but that has not translated into trophies on the pitch.

It is unclear if Jones would be the one to change that as the Dallas Cowboys have been just as starved of success as the Lilywhites. Besides, a full takeover seems unlikely for the moment, with Tottenham seemingly only interested in a minority sale.
