Sports Briefs: Branson drops Tarkanian opener in Vegas

The Branson School suffered a narrow 71-66 loss to George Washington of Colorado in an Orleans Division matchup to open the Tarkanian Classic on Wednesday in Las Vegas.

NJ Gray led the Bulls with 19 points, while Chase Robertson his four 3-pointers during a 17-point night to go with nine rebounds and five assists. Freshman Hunter Zack was 4-for-5 from beyond the arc and finished with 16 points. The Bulls face Centennial of Idaho on Wednesday at 5:15 p.m.

Girls basketball

Amelia Thomas led Marin Academy to a 37-28 home win over Arroyo on Tuesday. Senior Alexia Schwaegler added eight points for the Wildcats (5-3).

Girls soccer

Novato goalie Kailey Smith saved a penalty kick and kept the game scoreless for 30 minutes before Montgomery got rolling in a 7-0 victory against the Hornets (0-4-0) on Tuesday night.
