Djed Spence reacts after earning first Tottenham start – ‘Hungry for more’
Tottenham fans will love what Djed Spence has said after impressing in his first start for the Lilywhites against Southampton.
Djed Spence had to wait 881 days for his first start
Djed Spence arrived at Tottenham from Middlesbrough in the summer of 2022 and has had to wait 881 days before making his first start for the Lilywhites.
The 24-year-old had impressed whenever he had come on from the bench earlier this season and many Spurs fans were scratching their heads as to why Ange Postecoglou was not giving him enough minutes, particularly given Pedro Porro‘s struggles.
Postecoglou finally turned to the Englishman for the clash against St Mary’s, starting him in his preferred right-back birth, and the former Middlesbrough man did not disappoint, delivering an accomplished display as Spurs ran out 5-0 winners.

It took Spence just 30 seconds to make an impact as he picked up the ball in Tottenham’s half, glided past several challenges and played James Maddison through on goal with a perfectly timed through-ball, with the attacking midfielder doing the rest.
That was the start of an excellent night for Spence, who switched to left-back after Destiny Udogie was forced off on 28 minutes, with the 24-year-old not putting a foot wrong all game.
The defender has taken to social media on the back of the win against Saints to write: “Hungry for more”.
Postecoglou’s treatment of Spence has been bizarre
While we are not privy to what goes on in the training pitch from day to day, from the outside, it looks extremely bizarre that Postecoglou has been so reluctant to hand opportunities to Spence.
The right-back will be hoping that his display on Sunday is the start of his turnaround at Tottenham as he certainly showed the Australian that he is ready to play regularly.
