Los Angeles deputy mayor allegedly made bomb threat to City Hall
LOS ANGELES (KTLA) – Federal agents searched the home of Los Angeles Deputy Mayor Brian Williams on Tuesday following allegations that he made a bomb threat to City Hall earlier this year.
The investigation and ensuing search was confirmed by Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass's office Wednesday afternoon.
The date and time of the alleged bomb threat was not disclosed, but a spokesperson for the mayor said the Los Angeles Police Department investigated and found no immediate threat to the public.
Williams was immediately placed on administrative leave, the spokesperson said.
Officials did not disclose any motive for Williams' alleged actions as of this week.
Williams was named by Bass as the Deputy Mayor of Public Safety in February 2023. His duties include overseeing the LAPD, the Los Angeles Fire Department, and the police departments that patrol LAX and the Port of Los Angeles.
Williams has also served as a deputy mayor under Mayor James Hahn, in which he oversaw management of public works and the L.A. Department of Transportation.
Bass's spokesperson said the mayor "takes this matter very seriously."
Due to William's oversight over the LAPD, the case is being investigated by the FBI. When reached for comment, an FBI spokesperson said it would be "inappropriate" to comment on the matter.
