New York Liquor Authority finds 3 businesses selling minors alcohol

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The New York State Liquor Authority announced finding three businesses selling alcohol to minors after a compliance check on December 6. The compliance checks were done in the greater Capital Region using undercover decoys.

Investigators visited 12 licensed businesses. Of the three found selling to minors, two were in Schenectady and one was in Troy. They are as follows:

  • Cold Spring and Food Service Inc. on Hamburg Street in Schenectady
  • Rutva and Aruna Inc. on McClellan Street in Schenectady
  • Nabil Mohamed Al Zandani on Jacob Street in Troy

There were nine other businesses checked and they were found to not sell to minors. They are as follows:

  • Valera on Broadway in Schenectady
  • Central Liquor Store Inc. on Central Avenue in Albany
  • Siena Corp. on New Loudon Road in Albany
  • Alashmali Mart Inc. on Central Avenue in Albany
  • 7 Eleven Inc. on Exchange Street in Albany
  • Empire Mart on Fifth Avenue in Troy
  • Broadway Schenectady Petroleum on Broadway in Schenectady
  • Qureshi’s Petroleum Inc. on Washington Avenue in Albany
  • Brooklyn Grocery and Deli Inc. on Clinton Avenue in Albany

The businesses found serving minors will face up to $10,000 fines per violation. Fines start from $2,500 to $4,000 for first-time offenses. Repeat offenders face possible license suspension or revocation.

Employees or licensees also may be arrested and charged with a misdemeanor. Those under 21 who are found using fake IDs or false documents to purchase alcohol can also be arrested and have their license revoked for anywhere from 90 days to a year.
