Man accused of
barn burglary

Authorities arrested a San Rafael man for allegedly burglarizing a barn in Fairfax.

Marin County sheriff’s deputies were notified on Wednesday about the incident on Bothin Road.

Sheriff’s Sgt. Adam Schermerhorn said that a homeowner chased away a suspect who broke into his barn. Deputies later contacted a man who matched the suspect’s description on Iron Springs Road. Schermerhorn said that the homeowner identified the suspect as the burglar.

Juan Oviedo Arrizu, 44, was arrested on suspicion of burglary, possessing burglary tools, and violating the terms of his probation. He was placed into no-bail custody at the Marin County Jail due to his probation offense.

locked down

Novato High School was placed on lockdown Thursday after robbery suspects were seen fleeing onto the campus.

Authorities were notified around 11:30 a.m. about an armed robbery that occurred near the corner of Arthur and Hayes streets. The police reported that several suspects, described as male juveniles in dark clothing, confronted and robbed a person. One suspect brandished a handgun during the robbery, police said.

Police officers, a K-9 unit and a drone team searched the campus and determined that the suspects left the school grounds. The lockdown was lifted at 1:30 p.m.

The suspects remained at large, police Lt. Alan Bates said late Thursday.

Rain, wind, high surf and potential flooding are predicted as storms stack up in the Pacific, the National Weather Service said Thursday.

Rain will arrive late Friday and drop about 1.5 inches in the valleys through the weekend. Another 1-2 inches is expected between Monday and Tuesday. Winds could gust up to 30 mph. Christmas Day should be dry. Unsettled weather returns Thursday, forecasters said.

Dangerous surf and beach conditions are predicted on Monday and Tuesday. Sneaker waves are possible. Waves could reach 20 feet.
