'Show no mercy': Conservative strategist Rick Wilson gives Dems advice on handling the GOP
Former Republican strategist Rick Wilson thinks Democrats need to avoid the temptation to act like the so-called "adults in the room" to avert a government shutdown.
Writing on his Substack page, Wilson argues that Democrats would be well served simply by watching the GOP implode as its members fight over how to keep the government open.
"The Democrats should show no mercy, no quarter," he argues. "If Johnson is kicked from the Speaker’s chair only to be replaced by some next-level freak from the GOP’s roving carnival of oligarchs, crackpots, and alt-right cosplay warriors, fine. Fantastic. Let them devour each other like Cronus snacking on his offspring."
Wilson also brushes aside fears that the ouster of Johnson as speaker could lead to an even worse option taking his place, such as Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) or even X owner Elon Musk.

"I’ve heard the whispers: 'Johnson might be the least worst option.' Spare me," he writes. "There are no good-faith actors in the Republican House right now. Not one." Democrats should push the chaos branding to eleven. Maximal instability, maximal confusion, maximal conflict is what you get from MAGA, always and forever."
Wilson also takes a shot at voters who decided to back Trump and Republicans because they thought they would do a better job of lowering prices.
"All they’re ever going to serve you is chaos. It’s the only product in their store," he writes. "You wanted cheaper eggs, maybe? Better luck next time."
