Gayle On His Future, Aberdeen & Festive Fixtures

Dwight Gayle gave an insight into his future as he previewed this weekend’s game against Aberdeen.

The 35-year-old striker joined the Hibees on a one-year deal in the summer and has been spending a lot of time thinking about his next steps in the game.

When speaking to the media, he admitted that this summer might be the time to hang up his boots.

“I’ve started to express my feelings, and my body has started to break down a bit, so it is likely that I might decide to retire, but at the moment I’m focused on helping the team.

“It’s a difficult decision to make but something I am thinking about. I want to enjoy every moment of it whilst I’ve still got it.

“I know I want to stay in football with whatever I do next, I love the game too much, but I haven’t decided what’s next.”

Gayle has been in good form of late, though, for the Hibees contributing to three goals in our last four games.

One of those was an assist as Hibs grabbed a last-minute equaliser against Aberdeen at Easter Road.

“We played them recently and did well against them,” smiled Dwight. “That gives us a lot of confidence going into the game.”

“There’s a positive feeling in the group and hopefully we can get the result tomorrow.

“After the game against them last month, we thought in the dressing room that could be a turning point, and the fans showed they were in full support for us; it gave us a real buzz.

“We went on to decent results after that, but we need to keep turning up the heat.

We’re also entering a really busy Christmas period, but this is a time of year that Dwight relishes.

“It’s historic for the boys in the UK to be playing around this time. The games are watched by more people, and the families come together to watch too.

“It does feel more special to play in this time of year.”
