MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo reported that the Mets have signed pitchers Anthony Gose and Luis Ortiz to minor league deals with invites to major league spring training.

Gose was a second-round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies out of high school in 2008. He began his career as an outfielder and was traded to the Houston Astros alongside J.A. Happ and Jonathan Villar for Roy Oswalt in 2010, though he was then flipped to the Toronto Blue Jays.

Gose quickly became a top prospect with his new organization and made his MLB debut in 2012 at 21-years-old. Across three seasons and 202 games for the Blue Jays, he slashed .234/.301/.332 with five home runs, 36 RBIs and 34 stolen bases.

Before being sent to the Detroit Tigers for Devon Travis in November 2014, Gose was floated in trade talks between Toronto and the Mets for R.A. Dickey in December 2012.

He appeared in a total of 170 contests for the Tigers in 2015 and 2016 before converting to a pitcher in the minors during the 2017 campaign. He later elected free agency and signed with the Texas Rangers before finding his way to the Cleveland Guardians.

A left-handed flamethrower, Gose made his first major league appearance as a pitcher in 2021 and would go on to make 31 appearances for Cleveland from 2021 to 2024, recording a 4.78 ERA in the process.

Ortiz was the Rangers’ first-round selection in 2014. He was traded as part of the team’s package for Milwaukee Brewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy at the 2016 deadline before once again being dealt to the Baltimore Orioles for Jonathan Schoop in 2018.

Ortiz completed three major league outings for Baltimore before reaching free agency following the 2020 campaign. The 29-year-old later posted a 1.04 ERA in six appearances with the San Francisco Giants in 2022 and a 4.12 ERA over 15 contests as a member of the Phillies across 2023 and 2024.

He underwent Tommy John surgery this past July, however, so it’s unlikely that he’ll return to game action until the latter stages of the year.
