San Rafael police arrest suspect in auto theft probe
A San Rafael man was arrested Friday on allegations of stealing vehicles and recklessly evading officers who chased him, police said.
Christopher James Butler, 34, was taken into custody after a monthlong search, police Lt. Scott Eberle said. Police found him at a hotel on Francisco Boulevard East.
Investigators suspect Butler has a history of auto thefts and dangerous driving. He allegedly drove the wrong way twice on freeways while evading police.
Butler allegedly drove stolen vehicles during two incidents, including a case where he crashed and ran away, Eberle said.
Butler was booked into the Marin County Jail on suspicion of resisting police, possessing stolen property and carrying a controlled substance. He also had several outstanding warrants for offenses such as stolen vehicle possession and identity theft.
Butler is being held without a bail amount.
