Norway donates $ 4.48 million to support displaced and returning refugees in Afghanistan

The Afghanistan Trust Fund announced that Norway has contributed $4.48 million to support internally displaced persons (IDPs) and returning refugees in Afghanistan.

In a message posted on Friday, December 20, the fund highlighted that Norway’s critical assistance comes at a time of severe need for vulnerable communities in Afghanistan.

According to the fund, this support aims to help displaced persons and returning refugees rebuild their lives and create sustainable opportunities for a better future.

The Afghanistan Trust Fund expressed gratitude for continued international cooperation to empower Afghan people, build resilience, and foster hope for a more stable future.

This assistance comes as winter sets in, with the United Nations and humanitarian organizations warning of an increase in the number of people in need across the country.

Previously, Italy also announced a contribution of €3.5 million to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to support vulnerable returnees and displaced persons in Afghanistan.

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), approximately 22.9 million people in Afghanistan will require humanitarian assistance in 2025.

Despite international efforts, the forced deportation of Afghan refugees from Iran and Pakistan continues, adding further strain on the already dire humanitarian situation.

The donation from Norway is a timely intervention, addressing immediate needs and providing displaced individuals with the means to rebuild their lives. However, the growing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan requires sustained and collaborative global efforts.

International donors must prioritize not only emergency relief but also long-term strategies that address the root causes of displacement, ensuring a stable and self-reliant future for Afghan communities.
