First Filipino Christmas Market in Queens

0

LONG ISLAND CITY, Queens (PIX11) – Get a taste of the Philippines in Queens at the Paskong Pinoy Market this weekend.

The Filipino Christmas Market runs Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 45-02 23rd Street in Long Island City.

Visitors can enjoy traditional Filipino foods like Ube Pianono, a Swiss roll-like pastry, and Puto Bumbong, a rice cake steamed in bamboo tubes that is usually sold during the Christmas season.

At 3 p.m. festival goers can take part in parol-making workshops where they can make their own star-shaped lantern. Parols are a traditional part of Filipino Christmas celebrations based on the star that guided the Three Wise Men to Bethlehem.

This marks round two for the Paskong Pinoy Market, after its first successful launch last weekend. The holiday market comes from the organizers of Philippines Fest, a street fair that travels nationwide.
