Lyon Co. sheriff says scammer impersonating sergeant
LYON COUNTY (KSNT) - The Lyon County Sheriff's Office (LCSO) is warning residents of a scammer impersonating one of its sergeants.
The LCSO shared on social media on Dec. 23 that a person is calling residents and claiming to be Sergeant Zach Shafer. The scammer is calling people and telling them they need to call back due to a legal matter.
"While we do have a Zach Shafer employed by the Sheriff’s Office, these specific calls are an attempt at a scam," the sheriff's office wrote on social media.
The sheriff's office reminded residents that it will never contact you over the phone for warrants or to pay for legal matters. The sheriff's office will also never ask for gift cards or cryptocurrency.
