TOPEKA (KSNT) - A 38-year-old man was arrested on Monday after allegedly setting fire to a smoke shop in downtown Topeka, according to the Topeka Fire Department (TFD).

Topeka firefighters were called just after 3:30 a.m. to the 500 block of Southwest Sixth Street for reports of a fire. Firefighters arriving at the scene found smoke and fire coming from the business. Fire crews doused the flames and prevented them from spreading to nearby structures.

The 38-year-old was booked on one count of arson and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. The TFD said the total estimated loss with the fire was $7,500.

No working smoke detectors were found in the business, according to the TFD.
