New Delhi: Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli is currently receiving treatment in a Thane hospital due to a urinary infection. While his condition is stable, his friend Marcus Couto has advised him to remain hospitalized for a month to undergo comprehensive treatment, as Kambli is facing multiple health issues. The cricketer had recently appeared frail at a public event, raising concerns about his health.
Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli, who was recently admitted to a hospital in Thane due to a deterioration in his health, is now reported to be “fine,” according to his old cricketing friend, former first-class umpire Marcus Couto. “Kambli is doing fine now. He is suffering from a urinary infection and was admitted to the hospital on Saturday. I met him at the hospital today,” Couto told *TOI* from Mumbai.
However, Couto is not in favor of Kambli being discharged from the hospital soon. “I told them to treat him at the hospital for a month since he has many health issues. Since someone is ready to spend money on his treatment, why not?” Couto added.

The 52-year-old cricketer was brought to the hospital by one of his fans, who also owns the facility in Bhiwandi’s Kalher area in Thane district. Couto, along with his brother Ricky, had previously visited Kambli at his residence, the Jewel Cooperative Society in Bandra, after a video surfaced in August this year showing Kambli struggling to walk properly.
Kambli, who represented India in 17 Tests and 104 ODIs between 1993 and 2000, made a rare public appearance recently at the inauguration of a memorial for his legendary childhood coach, the late Ramakant Achrekar, at Shivaji Park in Mumbai. The former cricketer, who has been grappling with health-related issues for some time, appeared frail and struggled with coherence in his speech during the event. The function was also attended by his long-time friend, Sachin Tendulkar.
