Horses break free and run across busy motorway causing travel chaos

Drivers on the M62 have been caught in Christmas Eve traffic delays after horses escaped on the motorway.

Traffic has been held in both directions on the M62 after the animals managed to get on the motorway between junctions J22 and J21.

National Highways said traffic has temporarily stopped, asking drivers to ‘please be patient we’ll try and get you moving again soon.’

Elsewhere on the UK’s road network, drivers have been caught in traffic delays on the M4 near Bristol this morning after a police incident.

Overnight snow on the M62 caused disruption at the weekend, and while more is likely to fall throughout December, it is not expected to cause any serious traffic problems today.
