Baby boy fighting for his life after car slams into him and kills man
A man has died and a baby boy is fighting for his life after a car slammed into them in South Yorkshire.
A blue Volkswagen Polo crashed into a wall after hitting the pedestrians on West Street, in the Worsbrough area of Barnsley.
Police were called at 11.40am on Sunday. There was nothing they could do to save the man and he was pronounced dead on the spot.
The one-year-old was rushed to hospital in critical condition where he is now being treated for life-threatening injuries.
The victim has not been identified yes and the connection between him and the baby has not been revealed by police.
A statement from the force said: ‘A blue Volkswagen Polo was involved in a collision with a wall and a 56-year-old man and a one-year-old boy.
‘The man sadly died at the scene and the boy was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He remains in hospital at this time in a critical condition.
‘The family of the man have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.
‘The driver of the Volkswagen stopped at the scene and is assisting officers with their enquiries.
‘We’re appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident with information, CCTV or dashcam footage to get in touch.’
