I went on TV, got married to a man, realised I was a lesbian & got divorced all in a year – and yes, we’re still friends

MOST of us have gone through our fair share of relationship drama.

But one reality TV guest may have taken the top spot for riding the relationship rollercoaster – and it’s one you’ll want to buckle in for.

Siân appeared on Channel 5’s ‘Rich Holiday, Poor Holiday’ show.

Siân Samantha (@sian.samantha) shared a video to TikTok titled ‘Happy divorce day to me and my wonderful husband’, telling the wild story behind her marriage – and how, despite it breaking down, she now gets along with her ex ‘better than ever’.

Posting the story a year since her wedding, Siân explains she met her husband on a television show: “So we went on a TV show last year, ‘Rich Holiday, Poor Holiday’ (season 3, Channel 5 – last episode, that’s me)

“And then we’re on a bit of a high when we came back, and in true ADHD form, I was like, ‘do you wanna get married?’

“Why the **** not? Cause we did ******* love each other.”

‘Rich Holiday, Poor Holiday’ allows two families, with differing budgets, to swap their holidays.

‘Rich Holiday, Poor Holiday’ follows two families, one from the top 10% of the income spectrum and the other from the bottom 10%.

The guests are given the opportunity to swap the holiday they would normally take for one they would never consider.

Channel 5’s website says ‘Can money buy happiness? Explore Britain’s wealth divide as two families swap lifestyles’.

Siân shared the story on TikTok.

Siân continues: “Then six weeks later, down the bloody aisle we were going after two and a half bottles of prosecco.

“Mind you, that was a bloody warning sign there. We’re probably both drinking it like, ‘do you wanna really do this anymore? Are we gonna go through with this?’

“And then we just went for a little meal, to the pub after and it was a great day.

“I mean, he did give a speech on how much he loved everyone else.

“And then pointed to me and said, ‘this is my wife.’

“I was literally waiting for the most romantic speech of my life, but we had just drunk far too much at this point, far too much.”

But Siân continued with the nuptials and started a new life as a married woman.

However, her marital bliss didn’t last long: “Then four months later, I realised that I was a lesbian.

“So, that’s been fun to unpack.”

But despite Siân’s realisation and the consequent break down of her marriage, she says she’s managed to maintain a good relationship with her ex-husband.

“But [I’m] now very grateful for Joe, we actually get along better now than we did when we were married.

Siân says her and her husband ‘still love each other’ just ‘not in that way’.

“I mean, we actually have things to talk about now, and we have a shared interest – girls.”

The comments underneath her video were flooded – with a surprising amount of people who could relate.

One viewer wrote: “The ADHD-fuelled ‘impulsive-wedding-to-lesbianism-pipeline’ needs to be studied. Mine lasted 9 months.”

Another person said: “Forget gold star lesbians and baby gays. ‘accidentally-married-a-man-lesbians’ are top tier. Mine lasted 2 years. However 3 years later I’m now happily married to my WIFE.”

And someone else said: “Babe same, I was married for just over a year. I knew I shouldn’t have done it but I was terrified of the consequences of cancelling. Divorcee sounds chic as **** though, so we’re winning!”

Signs your relationship is heading for a divorce

  1. Persistent Communication Breakdowns
Constant misunderstandings, arguments, or a complete lack of meaningful conversation can signal deep-seated issues.
  2. Emotional Distance
Feeling like roommates rather than partners, with a noticeable lack of intimacy or emotional connection.
  3. Frequent Criticism and Contempt
Regularly criticising each other and showing contempt, such as sarcasm, eye-rolling, or mocking, can erode the relationship’s foundation.
  4. Unresolved Conflicts
Recurrent arguments about the same issues without any resolution can indicate deeper incompatibilities.
  5. Loss of Trust
Trust is crucial in any relationship. If it’s been broken and cannot be rebuilt, it may be a sign that the relationship is in trouble.
  6. Different Life Goals
Significant differences in future aspirations, such as career goals, lifestyle choices, or family planning, can create insurmountable divides.
  7. Avoidance
Preferring to spend time apart rather than together, whether through work, hobbies, or social activities, can indicate a desire to escape the relationship.
  8. Lack of Support
Feeling unsupported, whether emotionally, financially, or practically, can lead to feelings of isolation and resentment.
  9. Financial Disagreements
Constantly arguing about money, spending habits, or financial priorities can strain the relationship.
  10. Infidelity
Whether physical or emotional, infidelity can be a major breach of trust and a sign of deeper issues in the relationship.
  11. Changes in Affection
A noticeable decrease in affection, physical touch, or romantic gestures can indicate a loss of connection.
