U.S. President-elect Donald Trump plans to direct the Justice Department to pursue the death penalty for violent criminals after taking office. This follows President Joe Biden's commutation of 37 federal death row inmates' sentences to life in prison without parole. Biden had put federal executions on hold since January 2021.
