Dust haze warning in effect for Barbados
A thick layer of Saharan dust which is currently affecting the island and its marine area is expected to persist until Christmas Day.
The Barbados Meteorological Services says a severe dust haze warning and a small craft advisory remain in effect.
Skies may appear slightly yellowish during the day while visibility has been reduced to ten km. It is expected to further deteriorate to 5km tonight with a gradual improvement on Christmas Day.
A severe dust haze warning is issued when dust haze has already or is forecast to reduce visibility to five km or less within 48 hours.
A small craft advisory in this case is issued when reduced visibility (less than ten km but greater than five km) is affecting or forecast to affect the marine area within the next 48 hours.
The warning will be terminated tomorrow at noon, or sooner if conditions warrant. (PR)
