Man rescued, treated for hypothermia after falling through ice on Lake Dutchess
PAWLING, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- An ice skater was rescued on Lake Dutchess Monday after he fell through the ice, into the water. The male, not identified by state police, was rescued a few hundred feet from shore.
When state police arrived at the lake, 19 Dutchess Drive, troopers reported the subject was still in the water, with his arms and upper torso above the ice. The Pawling Fire Department, with the assistance of troopers and NYS forest rangers, brought him back to shore using ice suits and a kayak.
According to state police, once the man was secured in the kayak, assisting agencies pulled the ice skater and two Pawling Fire Department members back to shore, using a long rope. Once back on shore, the man was transported to Danbury Hospital with hypothermia and is expected to survive.
Town of Kent Police, Troopers from Stormville, East Fishkill, Dover and NYS Forest Rangers all assisted the Pawling Fire Department. Dutchess County Sheriff's Office led the report.
