A young girl is believed to have been seriously injured after a car crashed into a bus on Christmas Eve.

A blue Skoda Octavia drove ‘at full speed’ into the right hand front side of the double decker bus on the outskirts of Bournemouth, Dorset, it was reported.

Witnesses said the male Skoda driver fled the scene, leaving a young passenger inside the vehicle with the engine on fire.

The passenger was pulled free from the wreckage by two passers-by and was taken to hospital by ambulance but her condition is unknown.

Three bus passengers are also believed to have been injured, including a man and woman in their 30s.

A window from the pink number six bus, which was headed for the market town of Wimborne, remains strewn at the scene today as police investigate the circumstances of the collision.

People said up to 12 ambulances attended the incident as well as multiple police cars.

Local resident Gemma Milne, who helped out at the scene, said: ‘I was one of the first on the scene and stopped to help.

‘Young girl who was a passenger was in a bad way so praying she makes a full recovery as she was not good at all.

‘Two amazing fellas pulled her free from the car as it was smoking and p**ing out fuel.

‘Driver fled the scene.’

Another person posted on social media: ‘My sister was on the bus and is in a&e being checked out.

‘The car was driving full speed and went into the bus.

‘Two other people on the bus have been injured too.’

Sergeant Lee Savage said: ‘We are conducting enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding this collision and I am keen to hear from any witnesses who have not already spoken to police.

‘We are looking to speak to witnesses to the collision itself as well as the manner of driving of the vehicles involved prior to it.

‘I would also urge any motorists who were travelling in the area of Ringwood Road and Wallisdown Road in Poole around the time of the collision to please review any available dashcam footage to see if they have captured anything of relevance.

‘Finally, I would like to thank members of the public for their patience during the road closures, which were put in place to allow the emergency services to respond and enquiries at the scene to be conducted.’
