Heung-min Son is helping Yang Min-hyeok to settle at Spurs as much as he can

Spurs captain, Heung-Min-Son, has sent Spurs supporters a message about the latest addition to the club’s first-team squad – Yang Min-hyeok.

A look at Yang-Min-hyeok: Tottenham’s new signing

Yang-Min-hyeok has been Tottenham-bound for some time. Having signed for the club last summer, he was set to join up with the Spurs squad in January, but he has already been training at Hotspur Way.

Yang has broken records at his previous club, Gangwon FC, where he became the youngest goalscorer in the side’s history and the youngest player in K League history to be awarded Player of the Month. He has continued to break records, as he is now the youngest Korean player to sign for a Premier League club.

The 18-year-old is excited to sign for Tottenham and has described the opportunity to play alongside his Korean counterpart, Heung-min-Son, as an honour.

Ange Postecoglou has seen a number of younger players join his side and with Spurs experiencing so many injuries this season, being part of his team can be unforgiving when it comes to pressure.

Like senior players, youngsters are expected to perform to a high standard and much can be required of them. One example is Archie Gray, who is having to play matches against the best teams in the country away from his favoured position.

But Son has called on supporters to be patient with Yang and to avoid placing an unnecessary burden on him.

Speaking to Hayters TV, he said: “I’m trying my best, obviously there are some situations he will have to handle by himself, so I can’t help him like I’m his dad, but I am going to help him on and off the pitch. I hope he can bring some great football and great talent to the club, so I can’t wait to see him with us.”

When asked about what fans can expect from the new signing, Son said: “I don’t want to give him big pressure, he is only 18. I think nowadays people are going too early over their excitement for young players so I want to keep him quiet. I just hope he works hard and helps the team.”

Yang became a regular starter at his former club and picked up 12 goals and six assists in 38 appearances during the K League 1 season. While this is nothing extraordinary, it is proof he knows how to contribute to his side.

Favouring the right wing position, there could be chances for Yang this season, as Brennan Johnson looks out of favour at Spurs, while Dejan Kulusevski looks at his best in midfield. But as Son has said, Yang must be allowed space to develop if he is to become an important player for Tottenham.
