Saving Murderers and Killing Babies
Nothing defines the leadership of the Democratic Party better than its positions on the death penalty and abortion. They save murderers while ensuring the “right” to kill babies. What else explains President Biden’s commutation of 37 of the 40 murderers on federal death row with his promotion of abortion on demand? What else explains the “mercy” afforded to heinous, depraved killers of innocents with the sanctifying of abortionists who kill innocent babies? It is “morality” turned upside down.
Eighty years ago, the political philosopher James Burnham defined liberalism as the “ideology of Western suicide” in his masterful Suicide of the West. Burnham depicted liberalism as a creed, a form of religion that is opposed to traditional morality — or for that matter, any traditions. Liberals believe that human nature is “progressing,” which is why they have more recently called themselves “progressives” instead of liberals. And, when they see that not all humans “progress” at the same pace, they use the coercive powers of the state to attempt to move them forward into their version of the promised land. President Barack Obama was studio-cast as the progressive prophet and leader. He had imbibed all of liberalism’s creed at Columbia and Harvard Universities but also learned the rough trade of politics from his Chicago mentors. The fact that he was half Black was icing on the cake for progressives. And when he was elected president, he pledged to “fundamentally transform” America. Progressives in the media, in Hollywood, and in the larger culture were drawn to Obama like a magnet.
His coming to power was to progressives like Jesus’ birth and teaching to Christians. Remember MSNBC’s Chris Matthews recalling that he felt a thrill going up his leg when Obama spoke, and comparing him to Jesus. Matthews had plenty of company in making this comparison. Actress Susan Sarandon compared Obama to Christ. NPR’s Frank James wrote that Obama’s words about “love” brought to mind Jesus’ remarks as recorded in John 21:15. An artist depicted Obama in a Christ-like pose in a painting titled “The Truth.” Author Barbara Thompson wrote a book titled The Gospel According to Apostle Barack. MSNBC’s White House correspondent April Ryan once remarked that “there’s Jesus, HBCUs [historically Black colleges and universities] and Obama.”
Obama’s “disciples” have been running the government under the guise of the Biden presidency. The recent Wall Street Journal report and other news stories indicate that what one DNC member calls a “shadow presidency” has been running the country for the past four years. That “shadow presidency” includes Obama administration holdovers who control the government bureaucracies and effectively run the nation. As the headline of James Freeman’s Wall Street Journal column says: “We Still Don’t Know Who Is Running Our Government.” Is it Jill Biden, Susan Rice, Jeff Zients, Jake Sullivan, Evan Ryan, Natalie Quillian, or some other former Obama administration official? Or a combination of some or all of these unelected people?
What we do know is that the followers of the progressive creed are making (and have been making) the decisions for the executive branch. That explains the “mercy” shown to Kaboni Savage, the Philadelphia drug lord who killed 12 innocent people, including four children, by firebombing their home. It explains the “mercy” shown to Iouri Mikhel and Jurijus Kadamovas, who kidnapped, beat, and strangled five victims in southern California after receiving more than a million dollars in ransom from their families. It explains the “mercy” shown to Thomas Sanders, who kidnapped, shot, and slit the throat of a 12-year-old girl after he murdered her mother. It explains the “mercy” shown to Anthony Battle, who, while serving a life sentence for raping and killing his wife, killed a prison guard in Atlanta with a hammer. It explains the “mercy” shown to Jorge Avila-Torres, who stabbed to death an 8-year-old girl and a 9-year-old girl in Chicago in 2005, then in 2009 strangled a female naval officer in Virginia. And, it explains why they did not commute the death sentences of the Boston Marathon bomber, the murderer of Jews in a Pittsburgh synagogue, and the gunman who killed members of the Mother Emanuel Church in Charleston. The progressive creed still allows justice for some terrorists and hate-crime killers. (RELATED: The Murderers on Joe Biden’s Nice List)
These same progressives have no mercy for the innocent unborn children who are killed by abortionists.
Progressives have, as Richard Weaver predicted many years ago in Ideas Have Consequences, abandoned the ancient Judeo-Christian restraints and approached a condition in which they are “amoral without the capacity to perceive it and degraded without means to measure [their] descent.”
