Putin emphasizes common approaches for global issues at CIS Summit

Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, stated at the opening of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) summit that the member countries share common approaches to addressing global issues.

According to the Russian news agency TASS, Putin said on Wednesday, December 25, that it is important for CIS member states to have similar or aligned positions on key global and regional matters.

He added, “CIS members have enhanced cooperation in the fight against extremism, transnational crimes, and drug trafficking, with daily activities and communication established between security agencies.”

He also noted that all CIS countries are working toward establishing a just global order based on well-known principles of international law, with the central role of the United Nations.

In addition to addressing regional security concerns, the summit focused on expanding collaboration in trade and economic development, as well as strengthening political ties between member states. It is evident that the CIS continues to evolve as a key platform for dialogue and cooperation in the post-Soviet space.

The members of the Commonwealth of Independent States include Azerbaijan, Armenia, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Tajikistan, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, and Moldova.
