Brand New 'Happy Gilmore 2' Trailer Is Missing One Thing
Adam Sandler movies are known for their immortal quotable jokes. From “Of course I peed my pants!” in Billy Madison to “Please get out of my Van Halen t-shirt” in The Wedding Singer, there’s an endless supply of great moments from Adam Sander. Even his more serious drama, Uncut Gems gave us: “This is how I win.” But, are we ready for an Adam Sandler comedy movie that is, perhaps, a little more serious?
The first trailer for Happy Gilmore 2 has dropped, and it's oddly devoid of the one thing you might expect—callbacks to one-liners like “Are you too good for your home!?” In fact, the trailer is notable because it seems to be mostly heartfelt, and semi-serious. Is this classic comedy going to swap some screwball antics for a nostalgic, earnest movie instead?
Though it’s probably too early to tell exactly what Happy Gilmore 2 will be like, the first trailer certainly has nostalgic, tender Ghostbusters: Afterlife vibes. We see Gilmore (Sandler) returning to the world of golf, and in the final moments, having an encounter with his nemesis Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald). Perhaps the funniest moment of the entire trailer is when Travis Kelce cameos as a waiter saying “It’s good to have you back Mr. Gilmore.”
Surely, Happy Gilmore 2 will have more jokes than this, right? It looks like a sweet movie and it’s great to have Sandler back. But, here’s hoping this feel-good comedy of 2025 creates some new truly hilarious moments. Nostalgia alone can’t take us through all eighteen holes.
