An Updated Look at the Mets’ 40-Man Roster
After a slew of moves this offseason, the Mets’ 40-man roster looks a bit different. Once Sean Manaea‘s signing becomes official, the Mets will have 37 players on it. DJ Stewart and Joey Lucchesi were both outrighted to the minor leagues and elected free agency, Luis Severino signed with the Athletics, and Pete Alonso, Harrison Bader, J.D. Martinez, Ryne Stanek, Phil Maton, Jesse Winker, Jose Quintana, Adam Ottavino, and Jose Iglesias are still on the free agent market. Here’s an updated look at where the roster stands:
Pitchers (21):
- Paul Blackburn
- Huascar Brazobán
- José Buttó
- Griffin Canning
- Dylan Covey
- Edwin Díaz
- Reed Garrett
- Justin Hagenman
- Kevin Herget
- Clay Holmes
- Max Kranick
- Sean Manaea
- Tylor Megill
- Frankie Montas
- Dedniel Núñez
- David Peterson
- Sean Reid-Foley
- Christian Scott
- Kodai Senga
- Danny Young
- Tyler Zuber
Scott underwent Tommy John surgery late in the season, so he will slide over to the 60-day injured list once the season begins, clearing an extra spot. Hagenman and Covey are both on minor league deals, while Herget was claimed off waivers from the Brewers.
Catchers (2):
The Mets entered last offseason with only two catchers on their 40-man before re-adding Tomás Nido before the season. Hayden Senger traveled with the team during the playoffs on the taxi squad, he is a candidate to be added as a third backstop.
Infielders (8):
- Luisangel Acuña
- Brett Baty
- Luis De Los Santos
- Francisco Lindor
- Ronny Mauricio
- Jeff McNeil
- Mark Vientos
- Jared Young
Mauricio spent all of 2024 on the 60-day IL after suffering a torn ACL playing winter ball. He began baseball activity last month. Young was just added last week after signing a minor league contract, while De Los Santos was picked up off waivers from Toronto in November.
Outfielders (6):
Azocar was claimed off waivers from the Padres in early September and played in 13 games for Syracuse, where he will likely begin in 2025. In case anyone forgot, Juan Soto is a New York Met.
