'E-Crane 4000': Port of Iberia assembles the largest E-Crane in the United States
IBERIA PARISH, La. (KLFY) -- The Port of Iberia currently holds a record-breaking piece of machinery that delivers efficient results. The largest e-crane in the United States was recently assembled at the port, where innovative technology is reaching new heights.
Port Director Craig Romero said the crane is an "E-Crane 4000."
"This is the first of two that will be delivered to Cooper Consolidated, one of the large companies that work along the Mississippi River, loading grain, fertilizer, iron ore, coal, things that come in from other countries and things that go out to other countries," Romero said.
Romero said the crane is a first of its kind and will bring the efficiency necessary for a quick and easier process to pick up and drop off products.
Compared to older technology, the E-Crane 4000 will likely live up to its name as a trailblazer for what is to come for the future of industrial and manufacturing technology.
"To lift a ton of weight with this crane requires 20 horsepower. To lift one ton on a traditional crane with cables and hydraulics, it'll take 45 horsepower to lift one ton," Romero said.
"So, this is much more efficient in terms of lifting capacity because of the technology involved between the electrical and hydraulic electrical hydraulics, if you will. It takes half as much horsepower to make the delivery of loading and unloading, so it's much more cost-efficient to operate."
