Australian media INSULTS Virat Kohli, labels him ‘clown’ over Sam Konstas incident

0

New Delhi: Andy Pycroft, the match referee from the International Cricket Council (ICC), has put forth his decision concerning the clash between Virat Kohli and Sam Konstas that happened on the first day of the 4th Test in Melbourne. This encounter saw Kohli seemingly shoulder-bumping Konstas on purpose, sparking vivid reactions during and post the match. In response, numerous veteran cricketers voiced their views. Consequentially, even though it was initially thought the problem would be wrapped up after the match official’s verdict, Australian press showed discontent as Kohli merely received a fine of 20 percent on his match fee and got stamped with a single demerit point.

Following a popular incident that took a social media spotlight, calls for cricket superstar Virat Kohli to be benched for a match have surged. Despite this pressure, the match referee deemed a solitary demerit point and a certain financial penalty to be sufficient punishment for Kohli. On the other hand, the Australian press took it a step too far, referring to Kohli as a ‘clown’ in their Friday morning prints and sharing disrespectful comments about him.

‘The West Australian’ humiliated the former India captain by using the headline – ‘Clown Kohli.’ Kohli was also called a sook (crybaby or coward) over his act.

Konstas’ first foray into Australian cricket was indeed a memorable affair. The young 19-year-old won hearts with his strategic game against India’s top fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, pulling off 34 runs out of a total 60 just from him. Further adding to the spectacle, he engaged in a fiery confrontation with seasoned player, Virat Kohli, culminating in a physical tussle. This incident landed the 36-year-old Kohli in hot waters with the International Cricket Council (ICC), resulting in a fine equating to 20 percent of his match payment and an additional demerit point to his name.

In a conversation with ANI about the altercation, BCCI President commented, “I did not see the incident (Virat Kohli-Sam Konstas incident), but these things happen on the cricket ground. You have to accept it and carry on. See that the game goes on. That is important.”

During the post-game media session, Konstas shared that his accidental run-in with Virat was purely unintentional.

“I was just adjusting my gloves, and I think he accidentally bumped me. But I think that is just cricket, just the tension,” he said.
