MLB Rumors: Tigers Still Interested In Potential Red Sox Target
The Tigers signed Gleyber Torres this week but might not be done after that.
Detroit has multiple young pieces who need more playing time. However, A.J. Hinch’s side also got a taste of the postseason in 2024 and doesn’t want to fold a season later.
The Boston Red Sox and Tigers reportedly are in the mix to sign Alex Bregman. Torres will play second base and his signing might not deter Detroit from its continued Bregman pursuit. According to Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press, there is still mutual interest between the sides. However, “there is a gap in perceived value between the two sides as negotiations continue.”
Bregman and the Astros also reportedly could not agree on finances either. That was why Houston pivoted to Christian Walker after talks “stalled,” which prompted a response from the All-Star’s agent Scott Boras.
It’s unknown how much contact there’s been between the Red Sox and Bregman. Manager Alex Cora remains a big fan from their Astros days, and chief baseball officer Craig Breslow admitted a right-handed bat is a need for Boston.
Corbin Burnes and Teoscar Hernández reportedly agreed to deals, which leaves Bregman as the last big free agent left on the market.
