Alasdair Gold sets record straight on Ange Postecoglou press conference reports
Alasdair Gold has shed light on what happened following Tottenham’s defeat at the City Ground amidst reports that Ange Postecoglou dashed out quickly from his post-match press conference.
Post-match press conference was extremely short
Normally, one would expect that the Tottenham head coach would have a lot of questions to answer after seeing his side fall to their ninth loss in 18 Premier League games this season.
However, the press conference at the City Ground lasted just a few minutes, with Postecoglou only taking three questions in total.
While some have suggested that the disgruntled Australian did not want to take too many questions, the record has now been set straight on what happened.
Alasdair Gold explains why Ange Postecoglou only took a few questions
Contrary to suggestions by other outlets, Football.London’s Alasdair Gold explains that some outlets were not present at the press conference when Postecoglou walked through the door.
The journalist revealed that the sparsely populated room combined with the fact that the 59-year-old had another press conference scheduled in 18 hours were the main reason why there were not too many questions.
Gold said: “With fewer television and radio interviews to do than in recent high-profile games, he emerged quickly into the conference room, catching many journalists out who had not come down from the press box.
“On top of that, some of those present in the sparsely-populated room were well aware that Postecoglou had to sit in front of them again in just over 18 hours at Hotspur Way for a longer press conference ahead of the match against Wolves.
“The 59-year-old is normally more thoughtful with lengthy answers in his pre-match press conferences than amid the pain of defeat, so all of the above meant he only got a handful of questions before a lengthy pause brought the end of the press conference.
“Some outlets that were not present made it sound like Postecoglou dashed out as quickly as he could, when in fact it was a case of questions for him being saved and not asked in the moment.”
Ange Postecoglou is not one to dodge questions
There is understandably an effort by some parts of the media to pain Postecoglou as being disgruntled and unhappy.
The Australian always fronts up and is not to absolve any blame of himself, repeatedly accepting responsibility for the losses.
However, that will only buy him so much goodwill from the fans, players and the Tottenham hierarchy, a lot of which Postecoglou has now exhausted.
