'A perfect example of scared MAGA': GOP lawmaker trashed for 'bootlicker' Musk defense
Outgoing Gov. Chris Sununu (R-NH) faced a wave of derision on social media after he appeared on CNN and defended billionaire Elon Musk from accusations of conflict of interest while he's handing out free advice to Donald Trump.
The New Hampshire conservative who bashed Trump until South Carolina's Nikki Haley bid to be the 2024 GOP presidential nominee fell apart, after which he changed sides, spoke with "State of the Union" host Dana Bash on Sunday.
During his appearance, he blew off any concerns that Musk might give advice that would benefit himself personally, glibly telling the host, "The guy's worth 450 billion as of today, you know today in this month. So, I don't think he's doing it for the money."

That brought out the critics on BlueSky, with attorney Marc Elias writing, "Sununu has always been a fraud. He is a perfect example of scared MAGA."
Ex-Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-Il) contributed, "Chris Sununu is the most fake politician."
"How many times have we seen this When Republicans can’t come up with a rational defense to what is an obviously unethical and morally dubious position They will either change the subject-or claim irrelevance Just like Sununu does here," wrote Vice Chair for Lawyers for Good Government's Adam Cohen.
Former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL) added, "I couldn’t go thru life saying things I didn’t believe. Sure, I’d make more money if I did, and I’d get reelected to office if I did, but I’d be miserable. Chris Sununu has spent the past few years saying stuff about Trump he doesn’t believe, and now he’s doing the same thing with Elon. Like this."
Over on X, CNN Jim Sciutto asked, "Where is the precedent for exempting the super rich from conflict of interest laws or standards in government or in business? Robber Baron era?"
"I can’t tell if @ChrisSununu is a bigger bootlicker or partisan hack, but either way, this is embarrassing," wrote former MSNBC contributor Bryan Tyler Cohen.
The former National Finance Chair of Draft Biden's Jon Cooper, stated, "Of all the smug, self-serving, disingenuous, lying politicians out there, Chris Sununu is one of the worst."
