Six shot in 'brazen and heartless attack' in the Bronx: NYPD

THE BRONX, N.Y. (PIX11) -- Six people, including a 12-year-old girl, were shot Monday afternoon in the Bronx, according to the NYPD.

The incident happened around 4:50 p.m. at 3544 White Plains Road, police said.

Police said two shooters crossed the road and opened fire at a group of people standing in front of a convenience store. The intended targets then ran into the store.

The shooters continued firing into the store, striking six people. Police said one of the intended targets who was not shot bumped into a 40-year-old woman, turned her around, and used her as a shield. She was shot in the stomach.

Her daughter, a 12-year-old, was struck in the leg, officials said. The four other victims are men between the ages of 18-21. They were shot in the arms and legs.

Authorities did not elaborate on the condition of the victims but said they were all taken to local hospitals.

"I panicked," said Jamal Wilson, who was working around the neighborhood delivering food when the shooting happened. "The gunshot was so close, and I witnessed a car getting shot as well."

Cruz Miranda, the owner of the vehicle, showed PIX11 News how one of the bullets impacted the windshield of his vehicle. He said he was inside his car on his way home when the two men opened fire, adding that people were screaming and running for their lives. He says he was in shock and numbed by what he had witnessed.

"This kind of traumatize you a little bit. If it wasn't for maybe 30 seconds later, I would probably have been shot too," said Wilson.

The investigation is ongoing. Police are searching for the two men, who were seen wearing a black Nike sweatsuit and a grey hoodie.

No other information about the shooters or the motive was immediately available. Police did say this appeared to be a targeted attack.
