Vinod Kambli dances in hospital to Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Chak de India’ song amid health crisis, video goes viral
Former India cricketer Vinod Kambli has been battling for his health and admitted in hospital for a couple of weeks now. But the star of 1990s Indian cricket, Kambli has been in good spirits as a difficult 2024 for the Mumbai southpaw is coming to an end on Tuesday.
Kambli captured the hearts of millions of his fans with a joyful moment that has gone viral on social media — a ‘spirited dance’ of Shah Rukh Khan’s hit song ‘Chak de India’ in a Thane hospital. The 52-year-old, currently recovering from health issues, was admitted to Akruti Hospital on December 21 after experiencing a urinary infection and muscle cramps. Subsequent tests revealed brain clots, but his condition is steadily improving.
In a video lighting up social media, Kambli is seen dancing enthusiastically to a popular song, spreading cheer among hospital staff and patients. A nurse and another staff member joined him in the lively performance, creating an uplifting atmosphere of camaraderie in the hospital ward.

Kambli, who represented India in 17 Tests and 104 ODIs, expressed heartfelt gratitude on social media for the overwhelming support during his recovery. “I have reached this far because of your love,” he shared, thanking fans and acknowledging the care provided by the hospital staff. He also extended special thanks to Shailesh Thakur, the hospital director, for his assistance.
The video has garnered widespread attention, with fans flooding social media with well-wishes for Kambli’s speedy recovery. Doctors at Akruti Hospital earlier confirmed that he is responding well to treatment for the urinary tract infection that led to his admission.
The 52-year-old batter’s deep ties to Indian cricket resonate through his lifelong friendship with Sachin Tendulkar. Both were coached by the legendary Ramakant Achrekar and attended Shardashram Vidyamandir school. On February 24, 1988, the duo famously shared a record-breaking 664-run partnership in a school match against St. Xavier’s.
Vinod Kambli and Sachin Tendulkar’s meeting had gone viral
Earlier this month, Tendulkar met his childhood friend during the unveiling of a memorial for their late coach Ramakant Achrekar at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Park. While the meeting highlighted their enduring bond, it also raised concerns about Kambli’s health, as he appeared frail in the video.
Despite recent challenges, Kambli’s dance serves as a beacon of resilience, lifting spirits and reminding fans of his enduring charm. He has been battling financially as well, surviving on meagre pension of Rs 30,000 per month from the BCCI but the Shiv Sena party has promised to help the ex-cricketer with Rs 5 lakh.
