Bruins Interim Coach Joe Sacco Sends Message To Fabian Lysell

Last Saturday was a big moment for Bruins prospect Fabian Lysell, but the NHL dream was cut short a day later.

The 2021 first-round pick was called up and made his Boston debut in the B’s shutout win over the Columbus Blue Jackets at TD Garden. Lysell’s family was in attendance, and the 21-year-old was a solid plus-1 in 11:32 minutes.

Lysell was sent back down to Providence on Sunday. However, the message sent by the Black and Gold was not a negative one.

“The message was that he didn’t hurt his chances, obviously, for an opportunity at some point,” interim head coach Joe Sacco told reporters, per a team-provided video. “Played a good game, did some good things out there, was an opportunity for him to get his NHL game. He got it based on his play. It was based on merit. He’s done a good job in Providence. I think the message is continue to build on your game. It did not hurt your chances for another opportunity here at some point.

“We’re going on the road. We’re playing against Washington. They have a different lineup, so we’re going with a different lineup against them.”

Lysell had a strong start for Providence this season. The forward scored five goals and tallied 12 assists for 17 points in 26 games. The Swede started getting hot in the AHL before his Boston call-up, and he’ll look to continue his run in hopes of receiving another chance at NHL action with the Bruins
