Company with new approach to moving people’s stuff buys San Jose site
SAN JOSE — A company with a new approach to helping people move or store their stuff has bought a large San Jose vacant lot that’s suitable for development.
Zippy Shell, acting through an affiliate, has bought a north San Jose property next to a big FedEx logistics and warehouse building for $12 million, documents filed on Dec. 30 with the Santa Clara County Recorder’s Office show.
The just-bought property is at 1551 Industrial Ave. in San Jose, a grant deed shows.
The site totals 3.8 acres and is near the interchange of Interstate 880 and Gish Road, assessment documents show.
LBA Realty sold the site to the Zippy Shell affiliate. LBA bought the property in 2021, paying $4 million.
During that same year, LBA bought a much larger adjacent site where LBA developed an industrial, logistics, delivery and warehouse building. In 2021 LBA leased that building to FedEx, a delivery industry titan. LBA occupied the site in 2022.
Zippy Shell is a company that is seeking to revolutionize the way people move and store their stuff.
People who want to move to a new residence can contact Zippy Shell, which will then deliver a secure portable storage container directly to a customer’s location.
Zippy Shell then gives the customer a few days to load up the container.
Once the items are packed, Zippy Shell delivers the items inside to the next residence for the customer or to a storage unit temporarily.
“We can store it in one of our nationwide secure facilities until you’re ready to have it delivered to you,” Zippy Shell states on its website.
It wasn’t immediately clear how Zippy Shell intends to use the site it has just bought in San Jose.
Zippy Shell states on its website that its containers can hold items from three to four rooms.
“We do everything on your schedule,” Zippy Shell states in a web post. “That’s why you get to choose when and where your containers are delivered when you are ready. We will come out, pick up your loaded container(s), and then transport them to their final destination.”
