Real Madrid interested in signing Tottenham star Micky Van de Ven
Real Madrid have identified Tottenham star Micky Van de Ven as an ideal fit for the profile of player they want but they face one major obstacle in pushing through a transfer.
Micky Van de Ven’s reputation is blossoming at Tottenham
Micky van de Ven was a relative unknown when Tottenham signed him from Wolfsburg last year but over the last 18 months, he has developed a reputation of being one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League, despite spending significant chunks of time on the treatment table.
His importance to Ange Postecoglou‘s side is demonstrated by the stark differences in Spurs‘ record depending on whether the Dutchman plays or not.
The 23-year-old’s displays in North London have reportedly attracted the interest of one of the biggest clubs in Europe.
Real Madrid want Micky van de Ven but face big roadblock
This report comes from Relevo, who say that the La Liga giants are prioritising additions in central defence next summer.
Los Blancos are said to be looking for a young, powerful defender, who is capable of winning duals both high up the pitch and in his own third, and someone who can defend open spaces well.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men preferably want a left-footer and they would be particularly delighted if they can get a player who can also fill at left-back.
The report says that Van de Ven is one player who fits these criteria perfectly, with the Madrid hierarchy ‘charmed’ by the player’s qualities.
However, the outlet adds that the price will be the stumbling block, with Tottenham’s demands expected to prove ‘too high’ for the Spanish side.
Tottenham could price Van de Ven out of a move
Daniel Levy will undoubtedly demand top dollar, perhaps close to £100m for the Netherlands international if Madrid come calling.
It is difficult to see any club in Europe paying that kind of fee for the Tottenham centre-back, particularly given his persistent hamstring issues.
