OTTAWA COUNTY (KSNT) - Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) troopers pulled over a vehicle in Ottawa County this week for hitting excessive speeds.

The KHP posted on social media around 9 p.m. on Dec. 30 that one of its troopers pulled a vehicle over for speeding in Ottawa County. The driver was cited for going 101 mph in a 65 mph zone in the county, earning a heavy fine.

The state trooper handed the driver a fine of $285 and a docket fee of $108, amounting to just under $400.

Drivers hitting excessive speeds in Kansas, and going above 100 mph, is a recurring issue for the Sunflower State. 27 News spoke with the KHP in August about the problem, learning that more than 1,500 people were cited as of July 26 this year for going above 100 mph.
