Brookhaven Winter Park to offer ski, snowshoe rentals

PORTER CORNERS, N.Y. (NEWS10)-- By opening a new winter shop, Brookhaven Winter Park begins offering Nordic ski and snowshoe equipment rentals. The new shop opens on Thursday, January 2, and is open Thursday through Sunday.

Cross-country skis, poles, and boots are $20 a day for adults, $15 for seniors, and $10 for kids. Snowshoes and poles are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and kids.

The new shop's hours are Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. All equipment is available on a first-come, first-served basis, and limited Nordic skis are available for the season at $100.

Park volunteers primarily groom the park, and anyone who uses the free pak can leave a donation in one of several donation boxes scattered around the park. Recreation Director Jennifer Zeisler said they are excited about providing rentable equipment and allowing locals to try something new.

"We want to encourage people to spend more time outside in the beautiful fresh air," Zeisler said. "Our shop hopes to give skiers a warm place for a break and to pick up a special gift."
